We have bedrooms

Our bedrooms are finally done!  We were so disappointed after getting back from Disney and not having bedrooms.  However we got them a week later.  After a long week of work and school, Friday night Brian and I worked until after 10pm moving furniture and putting beds together.  It was great to finally sleep in the house together in our own rooms.

Austin was sad the first night. He has always said he never wanted the addition.  However he has enjoyed all the process of the addition from watching the backhoe to sleeping in the camper to buying his lunch every day since we don’t have a kitchen.   He has also been a good helper with Brian doing projects like instillation.
Sydney loved her new room.  It’s purple and it’s called Magical.  It is so Sydney!  The second night she did not get up until 9am.  She is loving her bed again.  We still need to put up curtains but other than that they rooms are good to go.

They have been working on our kitchen too.  Every day Brian and I ask ourselves if this is done yet.  We are going on 5 months of this project and over 2 months without a kitchen.  We know we will love it when it’s done but it’s very hard to see that right now.  This has tested Brian and me beyond what we ever expected. We knew it was going to be challenging but really had no idea.

Our house is gross from the dust.  We don’t have carpet anywhere other than bedrooms.  But at least our basic stuff is in our rooms now.  It’s great to go to kid’s room and find what they need.

Brian has been working a lot with his business and all the house stuff.  Brian is the one who knows how to do things.  I like to organize and put things aware.  I can’t wait for everything to have a place!!

This week we got counter tops installed.  The kitchen and bathroom look nice!  I really like what we picked out.  Brian thought I was crazy for the white cabinets but I really like them!!   Hopefully I will be able to keep them clean.  I also painted and took out the carpet in my hopeful work office at home.  I hope I will be able to work at home soon!

They are supposed to start our backyard patio next week.  I am looking forward to that being done as well.  Next year, we will be able to entertain and have friends over.  It will be great!

For our Anniversary, we went to the Cavs game without the kids.  It was a fun night out together.  It was even better we won and beat Kyrie.  We still can’t believe how much the team has changed in a year.  Hopefully they will do well this year.

Austin is finishing up football and soccer.  They only won one football game but have enjoyed playing.  Austin still likes soccer too.  Sydney’s team has done great with soccer and have won every game so far. Hopefully they will win their last one. Sydney has enjoyed playing as well. I would think she would do it again next year too.

Walt Disney World

Our annual fall Disney trip, came upon us quickly this year.  We have been busy with the house and now it was time for Disney.  Brian got a staph infection in his knee a week before we left.  There were times we questioned if we would be going.  I got a Disney countdown for the kids.  They wanted to set up in the house but that was not an option.  So we found a place in the camper.  Everyone as soon as they woke up (especially Austin) they would change the numbers on the Disney countdown.

The Friday before we left for vacation was so stressful!  Luckily I was off but went to church in the morning with the kids.  Then I needed to pack for vacation and pack up our bedroom and house for the final touches for the house.  They are supposed to get a lot down while we are gone.  The most important thing is to get Sydney’s room together.  I can’t wait for us to have bedrooms again!!  Then Sydney said she had a sore throat.  I took her to minute clinic and sure enough she had strep throat again.  She just had it a few weeks ago.  Getting ready for vacation can be stressful but throw on the house situation and a sick child.  That about pushed me over the edge.

We were looking forward most to Disney just to get out of our disgusting construction house.  It’s really bad.  Kids and I have been mostly in the camper.  We haven’t spent the night together as a family in several weeks.

Our flight was at 8:30am on Saturday morning.  We got to the airport around 7am.  The kids had to miss their soccer and football games.  We got to Disney around 1pm after taking the Magical Express (something I did not sign up for until the day before we left).  Again not on my travel game right now.  But it worked out except we had our luggage.

Our room was not ready when we got there.  We ate lunch (we were all very hungry).  Then we went swimming.  The kids were so excited to swim.  Finally we got into our room.  We got ready and headed out to Epcot for Test Track.  Austin was so excited for that.

Luckily the rain held off and we were able to ride test track.  However when we were done, it was closed.  We got really lucky.  Then we went and saw Sad and Joy from the movie Inside Out.  They were cool.  Then it started raining.  The kids wanted dinner and so did I.  But we were not prepared for the rain.  We got soaked.  I was not happy and yelled and Brian.  He was mad at me for not going back to wait out the rain.  It was a mess.  Finally we left and got granola yogurts at the hotel for dinner.  It worked out fine.  We were exhausted.

On Sunday, we went to Animal Kingdom.  Austin got up first however around 7:45am which is sleeping in for him.  I was ready so we went to breakfast just us.  We enjoyed our breakfast.  Then Brian and Sydney went to breakfast while Austin and I did some of his homework.  After that we went to Animal Kingdom.

I had us a fast pass for Navi River Ride.  It was cool but definitely not a normal 2 hour wait for it.  Nonetheless we liked it and glad we had a fast pass.  Then we watch a music show and got a family picture in Avatar land.  The kids did the Wilderness Explorer program again where they collected badges at different locations by learning things.  It’s a great program and one of their favorite things to do at Animal Kingdom.

The next fast pass was for Expedion Everest.  Brian and Austin went first and then Austin and I went.  I think it was scary but Austin loved it.  Afterwards we headed to Dinoland.  Austin got to ride the Whip A Whirl for the first time since he was 48 inches.  They played in the Dino area and sand area for a while.  It is very fun for them.

The last fast pass was for Dinosaur ride. We rode it and Sydney hated it.  Austin was fine with it but he had rode it before.  We had lunch near by and the kids got a pail for their kids meal.  It was good.  Then we headed out of the part.  We stopped at some wilderness stations along the way for more badges.

Once we got back to the hotel, we chilled for a bit.  Brian and I rested while the kids watched TV.  Then we took them swimming.  This time in the baseball pool.  They would swim around the pool like they were playing baseball.

We took them to Hollywood Studios for the night.  We had a fast pass for Rock N Roll roller coaster.  Brian took Austin on it twice.  We also saw BB-8.  Then we watched the nighttime star wars firework show.   It was a fun night.

On Monday we went to Magic Kingdom.  We started off by seeing Tinker Bell.  Then we saw the talking Mickey which was great.  He even pretended to be a train and the kids went around in a circle with him.  Then we rode the people mover. That is one of the kids favorite rides.  Then we did the Astro Orbiter.  Then it was time for Sydney to meet Ariel with a fast pass.  Ariel is Sydney’s favorite princess this year.  Then we had a snack.  After snack we rode the train around the Magic Kingdom.  That was the first time we have done that. It was cool.  We rode the Dumbo ride.  The play area is more fun for them.  Then we rode the Barn Stormer.  It was a very long line for it.  Afterwards it was time for Belle’s fast pass.  Sydney got to be Philippe in the story.  Austin was a picture frame.    It’s cute show they do and kids love it.  Afterwards we went back to the hotel for rest (mommy’s nap time, kids refuse to nap).

After nap, we went back to the Magic Kingdom.  We had a fast pass for Buzz Light-year.  There was a long line even with a fast pass.  Afterwards Sydney found a dance party and did that until fireworks.  Austin and I rode Astro Orbiter again.  Then we met for fireworks.  The new fireworks show was awesome!  We were right in front of the castle and we enjoyed it.  Afterwards we went for ice cream.  Then we rode Winnie the Pooh. Sydney saw a few princesses and Austin and I rode the Speedway cars.  We came back to the hotel exhausted.

On Tuesday, we went to Hollywood Studios.  To our surprise the kids did not want to do Jedi Training so we did not get there too early to sign up.  Instead Austin decided he wanted to ride the Rock and Roller coaster again.  That is his and Brian’s favorite roller coaster at Disney.  Sydney and I went to the Frozen Sing a long.  We had fun.  Then we met up at the Disney Jr area for autographs.  We also saw the March of Order of Storm Troopers.  Sydney hates them.  Austin doesn’t mind them.  We rode Toy Story with a fast pass.  Then had some lunch.  We saw the Beauty and Beast show that Sydney loved.  After lunch we went to Indian Jones show.  We met Olaf.  Then headed back to the hotel. Brian took the kids over to Pop Century and Art of Animation to see the stuff over there.  I stayed at the hotel and did some laundry.  I met them for dinner Hollywood Studios.

On Wednesday, we went to the Magic Kingdom.  First we had our character breakfast at Chef Mickey’s.  Chef Mickey’s was awesome.  The food is good and the characters are great.  The kids enjoyed eating a lot of strawberries.  After Chef Mickey’s, we went to Magic Kingdom.  Austin and Brian rode Space Mountain.  Sydney and I rode the Little Mermaid ride.  Then we did the tree house and Tom Sawyer's Island.  We rode the seven dwarfs mine train.  We rode the Speedway cars too.  It was rainy most of the day.  We had some pineapple ice cream for snack.  We also did it’s a small world.  Sydney was excited because she believes they are still her size.  I think she is bigger than them now.  We had a fun day at the Magic Kingdom.  We went back to the hotel and let the kids swim.  Our swimming pool is a big hit for them.

On Thursday, we went to Animal Kingdom.  It rained most of the day.  The kids finished their wilderness explorer badges and had a big celebration per their request.  They loved doing all the badges and they learned some things along the way.

I also had fast passes for Avatar Flight of Passage.   They ride was awesome. Sydney was not tall enough so Austin got to ride it twice.  Definitely the best ride at Disney now.  However I am not sure I would wait 3 hours for it.  Thank goodness for Fast Passes.

We also did the Jungle Safari ride.  It’s always awesome to see the animals so close.  It always makes me want to go to Africa and do a safari.  Maybe someday we will do that.

We also had dinner at our hotel that night and the kids enjoyed the swimming pool.  We were going back to the river of lights show but Austin had a meltdown and it was time for us to chill.  We made the choice to take them out of school however Austin has lots of homework to do.  He is learning to read and spell.  He doesn’t like doing homework with us.  He does great in school but always gives us a hard time.  It’s frustrating.  Sydney does not have as much homework to do but enjoys it.  She loves learning and wants to learn.

On Friday, we spent the day at Epcot.  We rode Soarin first which we enjoyed especially Sydney.  Then we got passports and went around the world.  The kids enjoyed each country and coloring the bears and getting stamps.  It was a fun activity that took several hours.  It was very hot too.  We have realized that early October is too hot for Disney.  Maybe next year we will go later in the year.  We also rode the Frozen ride.  Sydney did not enjoy going backwards on it.  Sydney dressed as Belle for the day.  We went and saw Belle too.  However she wasn’t wearing her dress.  We were disappointed.

We took the Monorail over to Magic Kingdom to ride Mine Train since we had a fast pass from the other day.  It was raining however we did enjoy it.

We had a great time in Disney!

The House Addition

Oh the house!  This addition has been exhausting and stressful in every way!  Brian had to run all the low voltage wires which took weeks.  He is making our house a smart home but it's been a lot of work.  I am busy just trying to survive with everything packed, only a gross kitchen sink, and two young kids in school.  It's a miracle the kids go to school and activities in the correct outfits.

This past week, I hit bottom for the house.  They have been doing drywall for weeks.  It took over a week and half to mud and tape the drywall.  That showed no progress and I am done with this process.  I know it will look great when it's done but I really don't want to hear that now.  I just want it done.

The kids are doing well all and all but it's hard.  Sydney has no room at all.  Austin decided he doesn't want to go in his room because it's so gross.  None of us have a place of our own.  The kids and I are living in the camper. Sydney fell out of a bunk bed a week ago and she won't sleep there anymore.  So we share a small bed in the camper.  Austin sleeps in the bunk.  Brian stays in the house due to working late and limited room in the camper.  We are all cranky for lack of quality sleep we are getting.

We are eating poorly.  I have learned Giant Eagle has a good prepared food section.  We eat hot dogs at home too.  Other than that we eat a lot of Pizza Hut, Wendy's, McDonalds.  Austin even ate a salad at Wendy's recently just to eat something different.  I can't wait to cook in my new kitchen!

The house is so gross.  Even today, Brian said it feels like we need new everything.  It's so true.  For the most part, I don't even clean anymore because it's pointless.  Brian's mom came up for the weekend to help us it was so bad.  We ripped out carpet in hallways and playroom.  They planted grass.  I packed up our bedroom.  We had Sydney's mattresses in there, her dressers, and a bunch of junk.  We are hoping to move into our bedroom soon.

Brian also developed a staph infection in his knee.  It was terrible.  He could not walk and had streaking up his leg.  It's been about a week now and he's finally doing better but it's still there.  It was difficult because our house is terrible and Brian couldn't do anything.  Luckily he is doing better.  We leave for Disney at the end of the week.

Right now, I am doing better since new things are starting to come into our home.  The pieces are starting to come back together.  There is so much work to do but hopefully in the next few weeks it will come together.  I am finally starting to be excited.

Start of School

So this is it, Sydney is now in Kindergarten.  As much as I enjoyed last year with her home, I know she is ready for kindergarten and is going to do great things!  Austin was excited to be in first grade.  He has a great class with lots of his friends.

On the first day they were so excited.  The school had a blessing and clap in the first day of school.  Sydney got to release a balloon since she was new to the school.  We dropped Austin off at his class first.  We got a quick hug and off he went.  It's amazing how much things change in a year.  There was no hesitation.   For Sydney we went into the room with her.  Brian got a few pictures.  Sydney was sad when it was time for us to go.  Brian stayed a bit longer and then we left.  I don't think she actually cried but was sad.  However her first day was great!

Austin also had a great first day.  He was very talkative after school.  His class does uses money as a reward system.  He can collect money and then decide on how he wants to use it.  One option is to read to kindergartners.  That has his attention right now.

I hope this is a great school year.  It's off to a good start.  Austin is in soccer and flag football.  He loves flag football!  Sydney is also in soccer and starts dance soon.  She can't wait for dance to start!

Our house is still a mess.  They have been working on installation and drywall.  This project has been a very long one.  Brian has ran a lot of low voltage wires so he's been busy with that.  Plus he put in installation between bedrooms.  Austin and Sydney enjoyed helping him with the installation.  The drywall progress is driving me crazy and it's not even sanding time yet.  We want bedroom back so bad.  Hopefully just a few more weeks.  I can't wait for our house to be done.  We have a lot of work still to do.  All and all the kids are handling it well.  But I know it's hard for them.  It's fun and exciting but exhausting.  And all of us, will be very happy to have our normal house back.

Sydney's 5th Birthday

Sydney's birthday was interesting this year!  With having no livable house, it made things for a challenge.  Sydney's party was on here actual birthday.  Usually we don't do that but it worked out this year.  Austin had football in the morning.  Then we had her birthday in the evening at Playground World.  That is a great place to have a birthday party.  The kids all ran around and had a great time.  Sydney loves to put icing on her face when eating her cupcake.  It is the Sydney think.  Brian had the virtual reality camera there too.  Bringing all the presents home was even more of a challenge.  Part of me wanted to hide them until our house was done but I didn't.  We let her open them all.  Then they went into bags to be packed up until our house was done.  I feel bad but that is how it worked out.  She will love it all when everything is done!  Next up, start of school!

Myrtle Beach and Solar Eclipse

We finally went to the zoo on the correct Cavs night.  It was fun!  Sydney got her face painted like a tiger. It was cute.  Austin enjoyed the train.  Austin got some dippin dots. Sydney enjoyed mint chocolate chip ice cream.  They got to feed the giraffes.  It was a great night!

With the solar eclipse being August 21st near Myrtle Beach we decided to vacation there before the eclipse.   Our house is a disaster so I thought I would go early so the kids had plenty of time to play with their cousins and enjoy the beach and pool.  I drove down with the kids on Tuesday.  It took me 12 hours.  It was just what I expected.  The kids did great!

Once we got there, they went straight into the pool.  They loved the pool.  It was the best for them. On Wednesday, we swam in the pool then Melissa and I took all the kids down to the beach.  They played in the sand and waves.  It was fun.  Then Wednesday night we went to Barefoot Landing and the kids did a Mirror Maze that was a disaster.  Sydney hit her face pretty hard into a mirror.  Then it went dark and everyone was scared. It was ridiculously expensive and not fun!  The kids rode some rides and jumped on the trampoline.  That was great for them.

On Thursday, I went to Melissa’s house to watch the kids in the morning.  We played there.  The kids enjoyed the roller coaster inside.  Then we went back to Nana’s to swim for a bit.  Storms came in.  We didn’t know what to do with the kids.  We went to the upside down house but it was too crowded.  We went to Dave and Buster’s.  It was so much fun for the kids!  Graham stayed home with Nana but the rest of us had a great evening.  Austin, Sydney, and Camden loved playing all the video games.  We had dinner there and kids got to pick out a prize at the end.  Sydney got a unicorn and Austin got a football.  They were very happy.

On Friday, Brian flew in.  Melissa got him at the airport.  We went to the Escape Room which was so fun.  I was terrible at it but Melissa and Brian did great!  Then we went for drinks afterwards and then to dinner at the Club.

On Saturday, we went to the beach and pool for the day.  It was good until Melissa got stung by a jellyfish.  Then we did not want to be in the water.  We ended up in the pool by the beach.  Sydney was much happier with that too.   We even got milkshakes and lunch there.   Austin and Sydney really love the pools there.

That night we went to Go Kart place.  It was expensive and Austin started with a big race track that he could not even see over the steering wheel because it’s just 48 inches.  It was a disaster.  He got hurt because he ran right into the wall.  It scared him and probably hurt some too.   We should not have let him ride it himself.   After he calmed down the kids rode littler rides.  We played putt putt and that was fun for them.  They also did the rock climbing wall and jumping trampoline.  They learned to flip on the trampoline for the first time.  They were both very excited.

On Sunday, we went over to Melissa’s and the kids played out their outside blow up waterslide.  Then we took Melissa’s golf cart on a long ride to go get ice cream.  Ice cream is always a big hit.  Once we got back to Melissa, we went back to Brian’s mom house and the kids went swimming.  We went to Barefoot to finish off some of the tickets.  It was fun.

On Monday, we left at 6am to get to Columbia for the solar eclipse.  We were going to drive south but the weather did not work out so we went west to Columbia.  Brian and Melissa found a shopping mall near I77 and we planned to stay there for the day.  We went to IHOP to eat first.  Kids had fun with that.  Then we went to the mall.  It had a Sears going out of business so we got a few things.  Sydney got a pretty Minnie Dress and Austin got a mouth guard for football.  There was an indoor playground so kids played there.  They made Solar Eclipse protection with paper plates for their glasses.  All and all it worked out.  We went too early but we did not know how traffic would be.

After the eclipse we drove all the way home.  It took us about 10-11 hours.  Traffic was bad until Charlotte then it was fine.  I drove until about 10pm then Brian finished it.  We wanted to get home because Brian needed to finish the electrical and installation.  We want our house done but there was so much that he needed to do.   It was nice to be home.  I wish our house was farther along but it’s slowly making progress!

Sesame Place and Hershey Park

This year Melissa decided to join our at our annual trip to Sesame Place.  I also wanted to check out Hershey Park so we decided to do them together.

Before we left, Brian and the kids were outside gathering wood from the addition when Brian accidentally stepped on a nail.  That meant he needed to go to the doctor and get tentus shot (our last dose was before our Asia trip) and an antibiotic.  That obviously hurt and the timing was terrible since there was a lot of walking in our future.
I had developed an abscess on my right side.  I thought I would go to the doctor to get antibiotics and be done.  No, they took me to urgent care for an I+D.  I also had the kids with them. After waiting several hours, the I+D was done and they got to watch.  They were not bothered by it.  It hurt terribly!  I hope to never do that again!  It also required wound packing that Melissa got to do while on the trip.
We left early Tuesday morning for Sesame Place.  We checked into our hotel and then went to the park to meet Melissa and the boys. Everyone rode some rides and we watched the night parade.  The biggest hit ride was the roller coaster.
Wednesday we spent the entire day at Sesame Place.  We (meaning everyone but me because I couldn’t ride anything) rode dry rides for a bit then decided to do the waterpark.  The kids loved the waterpark however it was a bit chilly.  Cam and Graham did not like it as much.  Austin and Sydney rode several waterslides together.  It was cute!
Then everyone got ready for the character dinner.  Everyone enjoyed that.  Sydney loved dancing to the music. She can’t wait to start dance.  We also watched the night parade again.
On Thursday we went to Sesame Place in the morning.  Again rode lots of rides.  Then around lunch time we left and stopped at a Chick FIl A for lunch and drove to Hershey.   We went to Hershey park that evening for a few hours.  It was really cool!
On Friday morning, Melissa got us tickets to make our own chocolate bars.  That was really fun especially for the kids.  They each made their own chocolate bar along with their label to go with it.  Awesome experience.  Then we headed over to the park for rides.  I was with Graham a lot since he could not ride as much and I couldn’t ride anything.
The bigger kids enjoyed the roller coasters and fun rides.  The weather was great.  It was hot but not miserable.  Austin even rode the big Hershey Tower.  It is big and he was scared a bit but did it and liked it.  I am not sure I could ride that.
Later that day, we also went to check out the waterpark.  It was fun but difficult for me since I couldn’t do it.  It rained that evening so the park cleared out however not hard.  It was a great day to be there since there was no wait for rides.
Saturday was our last day there.  It was busy!  However we were able to do stuff together which was nice.  We checked out the zoo there.  It was small but there was a little show that Austin even got picked to be in it.  He enjoyed that.  We rode some family rides like the train.  Aunt Melissa took Austin on some big roller coaster and Brian and I had the younger kids.  Sydney loved being the oldest cousin and could take care of Graham and Cam.  We really had a great time!
When we got home the outside of our house was done with windows in and sliding up.  They had most of the inside framed up.  They started on rough mechanical.  It is coming along but not as fast as I would like.  It’s a challenge every night figuring out sleeping arrangements.  And our house is so hot without air conditioning.  Brian does a nice job cooling it off at night though.  Our kitchen is still basically still together which is nice but I still don’t have any desire to cook.  I can’t wait for our house to be done!
Last night, I thought we had zoo night with the Cavs but it was actually next Wednesday. However we did not realize that until we have already arrived there.  I think I have completely lost my mind.  Then it stormed badly and rained.  We have moved stuff to our basement and the sump pump pipe broke off and sprayed everywhere. Luckily we had stuff covered but it was a mess.  It was another project we did not feel like dealing with.  We are all tired and cranky!
Brian is also switching jobs.  It was a difficult decision for him but the opportunity seems right so this is his last week there.  That has been stressful for him. He’s been very busy trying to get everything set up for his old company to go on without him.  We believe everything is going to work out but we don’t really know.  We are hoping for the best in this new adventure!
